Welcome to the Galloway Youth website! This site is a meeting place to help young people to live out their Catholic faith in Galloway Diocese, Scotland. The Youth Office encourages young people to be active in the life of the Church and grow closer in their relationship with Jesus.
43 pilgrims from Galloway diocese took part in the 26th World Youth Day in Madrid.
Before the main event in Madrid, the group spent 6 days in Salamanca where we were welcomed by the local Church and joined in cultural, prayer and catechetical events.
In Madrid we received Catholic teaching each day at a church or other venue, we took part in the Opening Mass, Papal Welcome ceremony, prayed the Stations of the Cross, enjoyed a cultural visit to the city centre, and took a full part in the Prayer Vigil and concluding Mass with the Holy Father.
The blistering heat and crowds challenged us yet by facing our difficulties with faith and mutual support and care our group grew stronger.
Please visit the WYD 2011 pages to follow our pilgrimage. As well as the official videos of the main events, our own video footage tells what it was like for us.
The legacy of this World Youth Day is only just beginning. Learn more about the gift the Pope has given us here.
Pope Benedict XVI celebrates Mass with 2 million pilgrims at Cuatro Vientos. 43 pilgrims from Galloway Diocese were there.
